Here's the story on this:
Pembroke Pines officer Kevin King, 52, a 17-year veteran, was responding to a call for backup from another officer at about 2 a.m. Monday when his cruiser struck Jesus Danilo Rosales, 38, and Juan Francisco Mayen, 48, in an intersection. (Courtesey of Miamiherald.com)
Here's the latest on the officer:
Placed on paid administrative leave.
Here's the latest on the men King struck:
Viewing tonight at Bernardo Garcia Funeral Homes, in Hialeah.
Crazy cops!...My company never gives me a paid vacation when I do something wrong.
Is it just me or does is seem as though the police are above the law? Ok...Well not above it (Jenne you did get caught didn't you), but there are definitely another set of rules for something like...oh say...vehicular homicide that applies to cops that civilians aren't privy to.
I'm not sure of the process, and I have been looking for it, but when a civilian kills two people crossing the road with a car my best bet is they are going to jail. Of course there has to be a trial and everything, however, the one thing police don't do is call the accused person's job to inform them that this person needs to go on a paid vacation.
According to a Miami Herald article the Pines police are certain Officer King will be back at work soon (It really is good to be the KIng).
One more baffling point is the constant mentioning of the men's state of inebriation, and a disputed case of beer, which i'm sure the police are harping on. What does this matter really unless these guys were playing chicken with Mr. King while dancing around in the intersection spraying Heineken at eachother. Last I remember pedestrians had the right of way alllll the time.
